The City Museum

This is the one place I will forever cherish! This is what St.Louis is all about! This is where adults can have a playground to have fun on too! And not be too big! A place where children’s imaginations come to life! Where adult’s imaginations can finally come out again after being tucked away for song long! Where you can bring the whole family because their is literally something for everyone to do! Let me tell you what I’m talking about!

The City Museum! This huge playground was once an abandoned old shoe factory that Bob and Gail Cassilly bought back in 1993. They started building in 1995 and have a vision of it being “a city inside of a city”. It finally opened to the public in 1997 and everyone was amazed! Ever since then, they have kept adding to it and will continue to do so! Hopefully they’ll never run out of room and if they do, maybe they can buy a building next to them to expand because we can not get enough of the new things that they continue to keep adding year after year!

If you would like to read about The City Museum’s History and what was build each year as it grew, you certainly can do so! It won’t disappoint! I promise you that! If you have never heard of this place or even seen pictures, I highly suggest taking a look!! Your jaw is about to drop!

When I say there is literally something for everyone, I mean just that! There are different sections of the building that are certain “themes”. They have a toddler area just for the little ones with a ball pit, caves, a jungle, an aquarium, a 10 foot story slide, a whole rooftop with a Ferris wheel, underground tunnels, and that’s just naming a few things that’s inside this place! And I don’t mean some little section, each “theme” is huge! Some take up a whole floor!

So yes! It does live up to the hype you hear about! Just come prepared! My few tips are to dress comfy, wear tennis shoes, get knee pads, & a headband flashlight, and HAVE FUN!!

They do sell knee pads in the gift shop for like $4 a pair if you don’t want to buy them before hand but I promise you they are a life saver! Or I guess I should say a knee saver!! LOL! For us moms it can be hard crawling around down on our knees and even for the kiddos, their knees may start to hurt after a few hours too. HERE are the best ones you’ll ever own! I got them because we go there constantly (also great for gardening, cleaning floors, etc.)

Dress as if you were going to work out or play at the playground with your kids. Because essentially that’s what your going to do! Your going to play at one of the biggest playground you’ll ever go to in your life! You want to have closed tennis shoes & flexible clothing on. Your going to be crawling, sliding, climbing, walking, & running!

There are caves, dark places, and mazes that aren’t brightly lighted up. So having a headband flashlight is a must for us. I tried just using the flashlight on my phone once, it was horrible. Your trying to play & crawl around with one hand all while your phone is in the other and you hope your not going to drop it or break it or crush it. You don’t have to wear it the whole time but for the dark places you’ll wish you had them on! They do offer lockers with a lock for a small fee if you need to store your items in a safe place.

This is an all day thing! So make sure that you get there in the morning so that you can spend the day. Believe me, your kids won’t be able to do or see everything in just a few hours. Even with a whole day, it’s still hard to do everything! There are places to eat on a few different floors when you get hungry or just need a snack.

HAVE FUN! Run around like crazy! Let your inner child come out! Let your children go wild! This was built exactly for this reason! To have all our imaginations come to life finally! But while your running around having the time of your life, don’t forget to look around at the details that were put into building this. Each piece that was put into this building is someone’s art work, is someone’s vision, and is truly a masterpiece when it’s all put together. It really is art built into an amazing playground!

I promise you that you will love this place! Just like everybody else does that comes to visit!

XOXO,

Rio

These are a few of our own adventures from going recently! There’s no way I could show you this whole place & all it’s beauty in just pictures but these are a few to give you an idea! To see more of the whole building, head over to The City Museum’s Gallery!
